Five defence firms have responded to the Liberal government’s call for information about fighter jets that could replace the CF-18s.
The five (not surprisingly) include: Boeing (Super Hornet), Lockheed Martin (F-35), Dassault (Rafale), Eurofighter (Typhoon), and the Saab Group (Gripen).
So what happens now? That question was asked of Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan during a conference call he had with journalists recently.
“When do you think we might hear the next solid concrete step announcement – explaining to people what comes next?”, Sajjan was asked.
His response: “I can’t give you the exact date right now. It all depends on a lot of the information that we do collect but it is going to be months, not years definitely because of the urgency for this. I can’t give you a precise date but like I said it will be in the months coming.”
